Just how did Earl Grey tea come to be? Well, back in 1830’s the 2nd Earl of Grey, Charles was his name, received a gift of tea flavored with the oil from the rind of a bergamot (a small Asian orange) to help counter the disagreeable water taste in his part of London. The Earl was a prominent reformer who helped promote more universal suffrage in England under the Reform Act of 1832. Today, this wonderfully fragrant tea, which is nearly 200 years old, is one of the most recognizable tea names, and the most popular tea, in North America. Devotees of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" will also know that Captain Jean-Luc Picard drinks only Earl Grey tea - hot. An old friend to the end, our Earl Grey Black infuses the perfect balance of bergamot oil with 100% premium high-grown Ceylon black tea. Enjoy!
