Yixing teapots are made from a material called Purple Sand (Zisha), which is only found in near the city of Yixing, a ceramic production center for over 7,000 years. Yixing is located in China’s Jiangsu province, along the Yangtze River Delta. Its Purple Sand possesses nearly human qualities – it is flexible, can breathe, and retains warmth. The famous unglazed, palm-sized Yixing teapots, whose origins date to the early 1600’s, absorb the tea each time used. This accentuates the flavors and aroma of the tea brewed.
